Zambia Introduction
Zambia, situated in Southern Africa, is a landlocked country with Lusaka as its capital city. Its name was derived from the Zambezi river, meaning God’s River. Zambia is known to be the 39th-largest country in the world at 752 614 km2. The population consists of about 10 million people from over 73 different tribes, mostly living around the urban centers.
Tourism
Zambia’s official language is English and all business and media can be found in English although over 73 dialects are spoken in Zambia.

General Info
In Zambia most of the hotels, restaurants and bigger shops will accept credit cards and most of the bigger banks will advance local currency against your credit card.
Some establishments will charge you for service on your bill, if this is not the case you can add 10% for good service.
Currency
The Zambian currency is the Kwacha and is known to fluctuate regularly. The Kwacha comes in denominations of 50, 100, 500, 1000, 5000 and 10 000, 20 000 and 50 000 kwacha notes. In 2005 1 US$ bought you 4800 Kwacha, just to give you an idea.
Weather
Zambia, with its tropical climate, is known to have three distinct seasons: Warm and Wet (Dec – Apr) Cool and Dry (May – Aug) and Hot and Dry (Sept – Nov). Average summer temperatures range between 25° C and 35° C, while winter temperatures range between 6° C and 24° C.
