Peru Introduction
Peru is located in western South America with Ecuador & Colombia to the North, Brazil to the East, Chile to the South and the Pacific Ocean to the West. The country was once inhabited by the Norte Chico civilization before it was conquered by the Spanish in the 16th century and therefore the main language spoken in Chile is Spanish.

General Information
Peru offers great adventure tourism such as surfing, sand boarding, 4×4, rafting, trekking, skiing and mountain climbing. The currency used in Peru is the Nuevo Sol (PEN). ZAR 1.00 will get you about PEN 0.34. The country is situated on the -5UTC time zone, which means Peru is 7 hours behind South Africa. Normal precautions should be taken to avoid getting in trouble. Petty crimes such as pick pocketing, etc. are common. Avoid trying to look "rich".
Weather
Peru has a diverse climate due to the tropical latitude, mountain ranges, topography variations and two ocean currents. The eastern part of Peru contains the Amazon Basin and makes up roughly 60% of Peru. The Peruvian coasts is a microclimatic region with the Central and Southern Coast with a subtropical climate and the northern coast having a tropical savanna climate.
Flights to Lima
Lima, christened the “City of Kings” is the capital and largest city of Peru. Lima was founded in 1535 by Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro. The city has a population of about 9 million of which about one-third of the Peruvian population lives in the metropolitan area.
