The City
The city of Oslo is the capital city of Norway and also the world’s most expensive city to live in due to high labor costs. Oslo was founded in 1048 by King Herald III and mostly destroyed by a fire in 1624. After the fire King Christian IV moved the city closer to the Akershus Castle where it was rebuilt.

General Information
The currency used in Oslo is Norwegian Crown. The city is located on the UTC+1 (1 hour ahead of Mean Greenwich Time) time zone with a Daylight Savings Time changing the time to UTC+2 (same time zone as South Africa) during the summer. Crime is not common in Oslo but care should be taken when visiting the metropolitan area. Wireless LAN’s can be found at café’s, hotels, bars in even in the parks.
Weather
Oslo experiences humid continental climate. Due the high latitude the city can experience up to 18 hours daylight in the summer and up to 6 hour’s of daylight in the winter.
Summers are mild and the average temperature is 20˚C – 22˚C with lows around 12˚C. Winter is cold and snowy with average temperature between -7˚C and -1˚C. The city also experiences many cloudy days due to the high latitude. During some winters the inner fjords can freeze.
