Nigeria, taken from the Niger River, is a former British colony and a member of the British Commonwealth. The country has a total area of 923 768 km2, making it the 32nd largest country in the world. Nigeria is also the largest oil producer and second largest economy in Africa.

Nigeria is a country of rich ethnic diversity with more than 250 ethnic groups with varying languages and customs. The official language of Nigeria is English, partially resulting of the British colonization that ended in 1960. The country is a popular tourist destination because of the many cultural celebrations and festivals as well as the beautiful landscapes, geographical sites eight national parks.

General Info
The currency used in Nigeria is called naira. Naira is not worth much outside of Nigeria so be advised to exchange your money before leaving the airport. It would be a safer option to pay everything in cash rather than with credit cards (even at top hotels) as fraud may occur.
Weather
The weather in Nigeria varies because of the size of the country, but could be summed up as equatorial in the south, tropical in the center and arid in the north. With these three types of climates the weather is generally known to be warm to hot with two rainy seasons in May to June as well as October. In the northern part of the country a long dry season is experienced from October to April.

Lagos, the largest city in Nigeria, has an estimated population of 8.8 million in the city and 10.7 million in the metropolitan area. It is estimated by the UN according to the current growth rate, that Lagos will be the third largest mega city by 2015 after Tokyo and Bombay.
