General Information

The population of Mauritius is an estimate 1,288,000. The island of Mauritius is known to cover a region of approximately 2040 km square. Mauritius initially got its independence from the United Kingdom on 12th March 1968. The current President is Sir Anerood Jugnauth, who is the father of the republic. The island of Mauritius is divided in to nine different districts. These include the Black River, Flacq, Grand Port, Moka, Pamplemousses, Plaines Wilhems, Port Louis, Riviere du Rempart and Savanne. Each district is known to have some famous spot that one should definitely visit once on the island. Mauritius has always popularly been known for having an amazing time on the sand in the warm sun. There are various activities that one can do both on and off the beach. Most of the activities however are physical which will require you to move around quite a bit. Someone that enjoys camping, rock climbing, water skiing etc will see Mauritius as the ideal location. The main source of transportation in the country is only through taxis and buses which is kind of expected seeing as it is only an island located in the middle of the ocean. Some of the festivals that are celebrated in Mauritius include Christmas, Cavadee, Chinese New Year, Pere Laval, Diwali, Mahashivratri and Eid Al Fitr.

The weather in Mauritius is any ones dream of being in paradise. The weather of Mauritius usually remains quite warm and humid through out the entire year. There are certain months during the year where the island is usually hit by major rain storms. However majority of the time the island is known to experience ideal conditions for sun bathing.
