Malta Introduction
Malta, also known as the “land of honey”, is an island country in the Mediterranean Sea and covers just over 316 square km in land area. The island became a republic in 1974 and in 2008 became part of the eurozone. The country has two official languages Maltese and English, with Maltese being considered the national language.

Malta is internationally renowned as a tourist resort because of its numerous recreational areas and historical monuments for visitors to experience.
Airport
Malta International Airport is the only airport in Malta and it serves the whole Maltese Archipelago and is located about 5km southwest of Valletta, the capital city of Malta.

General Info
Currency
In 2008 Malta adopted the euro as its currency. The banks in Malta are normally open until early afternoon during the week and until midday on Saturdays. International bankcards are accepted and foreign currency is easily exchanged in Malta.
Weather
The climate in Malta is strongly influenced by the Mediterranean Sea. Summers are dry and very sunny. Although winters are mild, but wet and windy, sea bathing is quite possible well in to the ‘winter’ months.
