General Information
Currency & Time Zone
Denmark uses the Danish Krone (DKK) as their main currency. DKK 1.00 will cost a South African tourist about ZAR 1.38. Denmark is somewhat of an expensive country and care should be taken when traveling with a budget.
The country falls on the UTC+2 time zone (the same as South Africa), which means it is 2 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time. During summer Daylight Savings Time changes the time zone to UTC+1.
Water
The quality of tap water in Denmark exceeds that of bottled water and therefore one should not be offended when you see a waiter filling a can of water from the tap. Restaurants are regularly visited by health inspectors and are rated by 1 – 4 “smiley scale” so be sure to check for these happy faces.
Crime
Denmark is a save country and violent crimes are very rare. Petty crimes such as pickpocketing do occur and tourists should never leave their belongings out in the open.
Weather
Climate is temperate with winters that are not particularly cold and cool summers. Winter temperature can drop to 0˚C while the summer temperature averages around 15,7˚C. Due to the northern location of the country the days are short during winters and longer in the summer.
