Amsterdam is six hours ahead of U.S. Eastern Standard Time and the currency used is the euro.

The best way to get around in the city is by foot or by rental bike. There is also a public tram system that makes the outlying districts much easier to access.

The weather can easily change form mild and sunny to rainy and windy, so it is important that you pack a rain coat, no matter what time of year you visit Amsterdam. Also pack a hat, a sweater, gloves and a scarf to ward off the icy coldness.

Wear comfortable flat shoes because you will mostly be exploring on foot.
