Getting around is a bit different that what you might be used to. Everybody walks or takes a boat. The public transport system (water bus) can be expensive if you pay per single trip, rather buy multi-day passes to save some Euros.
You will be doing a lot of walking so comfortable shoes are necessary. In this stylish city sneakers are not your best option, rather pack a pair of comfortable leather shoes.
When visiting Venice in the middle of summer avoid wearing synthetic clothing, it becomes very uncomfortable in the high humidity.
In general, the dress code in Venice is a bit more fancy and nicer than what you would normally wear. Ladies must remember to carry a lightweight top along in case you decide on visiting churches and need to cover up.
Mosquito can be irritating even when you are enjoying dinner al fresco, so carry your mosquito repellent with you at all times.
