Menorca (also Minorca) is the second largest island of the Balearic Islands, located in the Mediterranean Sea. The island is split into eight administrative divisions. Menorca is a highly desirable place to visit because of its beautiful beaches, variety of holiday resorts and alfresco dining. The island has a population of about 94 383 (end of 2010).
The locals of Menorca speak a form of Catalan language called Menorquin. It is a language not easily understood by Spanish speakers. However all the inhabitants also speak Spanish and additionally most speak English to a reasonable standard, especially in the tourist areas.

Airport
Menorca International Airport (MAH) is located 4.5 km southwest from Mahon. The airport has more than 2.5 million passengers passing through each year and international flights accounts for most of the traffic.
When to go
Weather
The island has a typical Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and hot summers. During the summer months of July and August, Menorca experiences up to 11 hours of sunlight everyday, and this is when a lot of tourist flock the island to enjoy the long, hot summer days. November to January shows a lesser number of sunny days. The highest amount of rainfall is experienced during the month of October and onto the winter months, resulting in a more quiet and subdued ambience.
