History
British Airways is the national airline and flag carrier of the United Kingdom and one of the largest in Europe. It was formed on March 31, 1974 and it operates from London’s two main airports, Heathrow and Gatwick.
The South African domestic flights are operated and run by Comair.

General Information
Fleet
British Airways operates one of the largest and most modern fleet of any airline in the world. As of 31 March 2008 the fleet consisted of over 233 aircraft with 67 on order. The latter includes two Airbus A318, twelve Airbus A380-800, eight Boeing 787-8 and 16 Boeing 787-9.
The British Airways fleet in South Africa comprises of 15 aircraft in total. The fleet consists of ten Boeing 737-200’s, three 737-300’s and two 737-400’s.
Baggage – Weight allowed onboard
Each passenger is allowed to take one small piece of baggage onboard, weighing a maximum of 7kg and checked baggage is limited to 23kg.
In-flight baggage restrictions
You are not allowed to carry any items shown in ‘The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air’ and the ‘International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations’ in your hand or checked baggage. Firearms are not allowed. Sharp objects must be included in your checked baggage. Fragile or perishable items or items of special value should be included in your hand baggage. Only guide dogs accompanying disable passengers can be taken into the aircraft cabin, other pets must be part of your checked baggage.
Children and infants
An infant fare is charged at 10% of the adult fare when the infant sits on an adult’s lap. Child fare applies if the infant is between 6 and 23 months and you want him/her to sit on their own seat. The children fare can vary from 60% to 80% depending on your departure gateway.
Seating
The aircraft offer roomy interiors large overhead stowage bins and leather seats throughout the cabin.
The Boeing 737-300 has 116 seats and the Boeing 737-400 has 127 seats. You can choose your seat when checking in online. When checking-in at the counter you can only choose your seat if there are any seats still available to choose form.
Special Needs
Disabled people or people who have limited mobility must inform us of any special needs, such as a wheelchair or assistance, when making your booking. If the needed arrangements have not been made before check-in British Airways may refuse to carry you.
